The Vintage King: The Vintage Warehouse, Nottingham.

The Vintage King

Nottingham isn’t a city short of vintage shops, however there’s one in particular that wears the crown when it comes to quantity, quality and variety.

The Vintage Warehouse is located by the Lace Market in Nottingham, making it easy to find and close to the city centre. With its increasing popularity and ever changing variety, this store is bringing in customers from all over the UK and wont cease to impress the most demanding of vintage shoppers.

Creating a vintage store inside a warehouse definitely gives an impact on entrance, the scale is colossal. Mountains of worn leather bags, dainty heels and 50’s tan winkle-pickers flood the floor before you even set your eyes on the menagerie of clothes stretching back through the warehouse. Then look up to see as many garments and accessories on the ceiling as there are on the floor. All your vintage needs are to be found here. Not to mention, it’s great if you’re shopping for fancy dress. Whether its eccentric furry hats or glam-rock spandex leggings, you’re sure to find what you want. It’s nothing short of a vintage paradise.

Walk further inside and you’ll be confronted by vast piles of clothes reaching right up to your waist. With the amount of clothes in them you could spend all day rummaging for vintage gems. You’ll see cute cocktail dresses, granny flower prints, hundreds of Levi’s jeans, knitted granddad jumpers and old concert T-shirts alongside high waisted trousers and fluorescent cardigans. Check out the accessories too for gorgeously tarnished bangles and beads, ostrich skin bags and crumpled Dr. Martens with ratty laces that look like they’ve been stolen straight off an 80’s punk rocker. If you’re feeling nostalgic then this is the place to come and re-create the look. They really do have everything.

Don’t be afraid to pick up lots of items either; the Vintage Warehouse is unbeatable for its prices so you’ll be delighted when you realise you can afford all the things you wanted. (Believe me, you will want a lot!) They even offer a fitting service which caters for men and women. So if an item you like isn’t the right size, they can alter it to fit you properly for a small charge. The staff are also very friendly and are always willing to help. Whether you need to find a particular item or want to put an outfit together they’ll be glad to help you out. Does it get any better than this?

Changing rooms and full length mirrors are also available for your use, so you’ll have no trouble seeing if your favourite finds go well together. Ideally located next to the changing rooms are accessories such as shoes, shoulder bags, ascots, belts and jewellery. So if you want to see what finishes off your outfit while you’ve still got it on, you can pick and mix what’s right in front of you, without trekking to the other side of the shop.

Apart from appearing colourful and cluttered, the layout of the Vintage Warehouse also keeps surprising you with extra rooms, sacks of clothes and treasure chests of accessories. So before you think it’s all over, there’s a small doorway at the back of the store leading down to a room filled with yet more vintage clothes. This area of the warehouse is more neatly presented with everything hung up on rails and shown on mannequins. There’s some real inspiration to be seen in here. The outfits displayed in the shop window demonstrate how easily you can put a very stylish vintage collection together. The mannequins show off beautiful velvet dresses with fur shawls, quirky retro shorts with boldly patterned tank tops and stylish blazers with smart pencil skirts. They prove that any style can be put together in-store. You’ll also find more expensive items in this room, such as designer labels, embroidered tops, heavy duty jackets and big leather bags; all of superb quality and condition. The prices of these items are again very reasonable, especially compared to London prices.

This Aladdin’s cave of vintage treasures is by far one of the best vintage stores I have seen and is well worth the trip into Nottingham if you’re not a local. Whatever you’re after, you’ll need at least a couple of hours to look around the place. It’s the perfect excuse for a shopping trip.
